The Faithways Grade 7 & 8 Program begins October 4, 2020
Saint John Parish offers a junior high program tailored to the special needs of early adolescents. It is a combination of faith, learning, prayer, group games, social activities, service opportunities, and liturgies. Topics include: Catholic morality and decision making, church history, the Bible, Jesus, prayer, social justice, Liturgies, community building, Sacraments, and feast days.
JUNIOR HIGH GRADES 7 & 8 2020-2021
The Faithways Junior High Program will follow a Hybrid model of catechesis. Registration provides families a systematic grade level religious education curriculum to complete at home. We hope to supplement the home program with periodic large group Junior High youth gatherings at the parish.
All registered youth will have access to an online program. The curriculum is based on the Ignatius Press “Faith & Life” Series with the online program accessed through “Our Catholic Faith Delivered.”
Families will be given the option to purchase textbooks to limit screen time and encourage family discussion. Registered families will be emailed a curriculum guide listing which lessons to cover each week. All youth are asked to take the online post-test after each chapter so we can keep track of their progress.
We plan to offer large group evening gatherings for Faithways youth when we can do so in compliance with Diocese and County Health Department mandates. The Monday gatherings are tentatively scheduled for 6:30-7:45pm with an optional social time from 6:00-6:30pm. Please be aware that the weekday and time of these gatherings may change. The number of gatherings offered per month is yet to be determined. Faithways group gatherings will give the youth an opportunity to socialize, share prayer experiences, review lesson content, discuss Theology of the Body topics and take part in planning and implementing social service activities.
